A/C Blowing Warm Air? What This Could Mean

Posted on

If your air conditioning is running, but it's warm air coming through your vents rather than cool air, there's a problem. Your air conditioner is running, which that part is good, but you are going to need to have a few things done to your system in order to get it working properly again. Read on for what type of issue this could be and what you may be able to do about it.

Insulation Damage

Sometimes the insulation wrapped around the condensation line can get worn out with time and will start to fall to pieces. When this occurs, it can cause your unit to heat up and you'll end up with warm air instead of cool air. This insulation needs to be replaced when it starts to show wear to prevent issues such as your air conditioner working too hard to keep temperature, or your air simply coming out warm instead of cool. Remove the old insulation carefully so as to not damage the condensate line, then measure how much pipe insulation you are going to need. Cut it to fit, then cut a line down the center of the insulation to wrap it around the line. When finished, wrap the insulation with electrical tape to keep it in place and so it holds up in weather.

Low On Refrigerant

If your system is out of or low on refrigerant, your system is not going to be able to cool your home. A lack of refrigerant can sometimes occur with time, and with older units, or you could have a leak somewhere on your unit. To check for a leak yourself you can use bubble soap and spray it on your refrigerant line. If it begins to bubble when the system is running, you have found the leak in the line and the line is going to need to be replaced, in addition to a refrigerant recharge of your unit. If you aren't sure how to check for the leak, you can leave this work to the professionals. You're going to need to have an air conditioning repairman come to your home to recharge your unit as well, as this is something that needs to be handled by a professional.

If your air conditioner is blowing out warm air instead of nice cool air, you need to have your system inspected to prevent further issues that could be a lot more costly. Call a repairman today for help with your system.
